Scott’s Heart for Trinity

My wife and I are so excited and grateful to re-join the Trinity community. We believe that now, more than ever, the world needs a Christ-centered environment that is rooted in the classical tradition that teaches students to love the Lord, to love learning, and to think, write, and speak well. We’re in awe of all that God has accomplished through Trinity Academy and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

Daniel’s Heart for Trinity

Having worked in and studied the landscape of schools across the country, my wife and I desired a school that would blend many of the best qualities we saw in other places. In Trinity, we found such a school. We want our children to wrestle with questions and be surrounded by adults that will help them think through the answers. We also desire our kids to have a Christ-centered education that will give them a framework and a lens from which to make future decisions. Our culture needs Trinity Academy and we are thankful to be a part of it.

Sarah’s Heart for Trinity

“When our children approached school age, my husband and I researched and visited many schools in the area. We both felt God at work leading our family to Trinity Academy. We were each drawn to the classical education model and Trinity’s focus on teaching our children how to think, not telling them what to think. Our prayer is that our children graduate from Trinity with not only a strong academic foundation, but also a faith that they have claimed as their own. Every year, our commitment to Trinity is renewed by the impressive and caring faculty and staff who model Christ to our children.”

Matt’s Heart for Trinity

Laura and I truly believe that Trinity is a special place – an essential educational alternative for families seeking an academically demanding curriculum framed in the Christian tradition.  Our three kids have benefited incredibly from Trinity’s classical academic rigor, the intentional discipleship from the faculty, and the instillment of a Christian worldview.  This is what we anticipated and expected when we enrolled here, and we have not been disappointed.  What we didn’t expect, but are so thankful for, are the incredibly dear friends that Laura and I have found in the Trinity family.  We thank God for Trinity, and I am honored to serve the school as a member of the Board of Directors.

Sarah Gessner

Dr. Sarah Gessner

Pediatrician, Wake Forest Pediatrics, PLLC

Sarah is a pediatrician at Wake Forest Pediatrics, PLLC.  After growing up in South Carolina, Sarah graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with highest honors and highest distinction while also being a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  Sarah then graduated, with honors, from UNC School of Medicine where she was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed an internship in OB- GYN in the DC/Baltimore area and earned her Master’s in Public Health at Johns Hopkins, concentrating in Maternal and Child Health.  Her training then took her to Charleston, South Carolina where she completed her pediatric residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, while her husband, Rick, served in the US Navy, also as a pediatrician.  Rick and Sarah settled in Raleigh in 2002 with their growing family.

From 2012 to 2014, the Gessner family answered God’s call to serve, in Kenya, as medical missionaries.  Although the two years in Kenya were hard but yet incredibly beautiful at the same time, Sarah was blessed beyond measure to serve in this way.  Sarah and Rick’s hearts for missions keeps them returning for shorter trips as frequently as possible.  They are members of Providence Baptist Church where they have been teaching 9th grade Sunday school for the past three years.

Sarah and Rick have three children.  Ted (Trinity Academy Class of 2015), a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill in 2019 has joined the US Navy where he is training to be an Intelligence Officer.  Anna (Trinity Academy Class of 2019) is currently a Park Scholar at NC State University and Emily is a member of the Trinity class of 2022.

Sarah’s Heart for Trinity

Trinity offers a perfect confluence of vibrant Christian faith, superior academics focusing on critical thinking and winsome rhetoric), and a caring community of families, faculty, and staff.  We have truly experienced all three at Trinity Academy.  Our two graduates have been solidly prepared to confidently engage in discussions of faith, history, philosophy and the sciences.  They continue to learn and grow as young adults, spurring us on to learn more and be better ourselves.  I pray this for each child that enters and graduates from Trinity Academy: that they will be lifelong learners who have had the opportunity to “work out their own salvation with fear and trembling” in a place with loving, supportive, and challenging faculty and administration.  I’ll quote a recent text from our daughter at NC State which speaks for itself: “Honestly, Trinity was one of the best things that could have happened to me.  I can’t express how grateful I am to y’all for sending me there.”  Priceless.

Having been a part of the Trinity community for over a decade, Allison is often seen volunteering in various capacities throughout the school. They are members of Summit Church in Raleigh NC.

Allison’s Heart for Trinity

Our family is grateful to be a part of this Trinity community, which is quite rare and special.  Having grown up in Raleigh, I watched the first groups of Trinity graduates grow up to adulthood and saw firsthand the fruits of a Trinity Academy education in them. We knew we wanted our children to receive the same education with a strong Christian worldview. We appreciate how Trinity weaves together the academic subjects throughout each year in both Lower School and Upper School. We are regularly amazed when our children start rattling off art history that they know, relate some piece of history to a topic of conversation, or discuss big-picture current events like they are professional academics. It is encouraging to think of how their Trinity education will pay dividends for the rest of their lives.

Tom’s Heart for Trinity

Trinity is unique and has played a big part in the life of our family. We carefully evaluated area schools when choosing Trinity for lower school and again for upper school. Trinity has been a wonderful fit for our family. My wife and I were first attracted to the mission of teaching students “how to think rather than telling them what to think” and the idea that children need to have a faith that is “their own,” rather than a superficial lifestyle. Unfortunately, these two things are often absent in the Christian education arena. We were drawn to consider Trinity because of our baby sitter, who was a Trinity student. We were impressed by the way she thought, communicated and carried herself. Most of all we noticed that she had embraced her faith and that it was her own. We continued to observe her as she went on to college, graduate school, and a career. We felt that she was well prepared academically and spiritually and that she faced each level confidently and successfully. It was really seeing the end product of the Trinity Academy education that led us to become a part of the Trinity community.

April Richerson

April Richerson is a Raleigh native who loves investing herself in the health and wellness of the Trinity Academy community through her work as a fitness trainer for Camp Gladiator. April leads boot camps on the Trinity campus in the early morning hours and works as a fleet technology expert and Account Manager at Samsara. She graduated from Peace College and has been a fitness instructor and enthusiast for many years. Her heart for Jesus, basketball, and her two children (Sly Class of ’20 and Kelis Class of ’26) is matched by her love for the Trinity community.

April’s Heart for Trinity:

We have been a part of the Trinity community since 2016. Sylvester “Sly” started as a freshman at Trinity and it was by far the best decision for our family. Not many people would be comfortable talking about it, but our family has been broken by divorce and the Trinity community presented itself as a part of our much-needed village at a critical time in Sly and Kelis’s life. It melted my heart to see Sly persevere and become a leader on campus and carry that leadership into college where he leads in the dorm, in the classroom, and on the basketball court. Kelis is thriving here too!

I am even more grateful for the love of God that is consistently present at Trinity. I believe it is what makes Trinity Academy so special.  It is also a place that is safe, inclusive, loving, and where standards are set high, and our children are challenged to rise to the occasion. Through my family’s experience, I am convinced there is something incredible in store for every student who is part of the Trinity Academy community.

Kyle’s Heart for Trinity

Sarah and I could not love Trinity more.  When we were first considering where to send our children to school, Trinity’s pitch wasn’t big, beautiful buildings or what colleges our kids could get into, but rather that our kids would learn how to think well, speak well, write well, and have a Christian worldview.  We were sold.  Now to watch as our children have become young adults, and to see them growing in their love of the Lord, His truth, and His creation, we couldn’t be more thankful for the partnership we’ve found in Trinity.  We now find ourselves wanting to look for new ways to be able to pass this treasure on to future generations, so that others can experience what we have in being a part of the Trinity family.
